Wednesday, February 27, 2019 - The Geospatial Intelligence Essential Body of Knowledge (GEOINT EBK): an updated framework for an education to professional career continuum
VIEW RECORDING
Over the past two years, and under the leadership of the Certification Governance Board, USGIF has partnered with GSX, Delta State University and various other academic, industry, and government partners (over 120 SMEs leveraged for this effort) to update the GEOINT EBK. The new EBK features:
(1) Vetted learning objectives for each subtopic identified during the deep dive process;
(2) A numbering scheme for the EBK to facilitate easy communication and identification of learning objectives; and
(3) A progression of subtopic knowledge necessary to grow and advance within a given competency.
This webinar describes the background, stakeholders, format, and processes used to develop a robust and usable living document expected to drive academic curriculum and professional workforce development within the GEOINT community and beyond.
Speakers
Dr. Camelia Kantor, Director of Academic Programs at USGIF
Talbot Brooks, Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Geospatial Information Technologies at Delta State University
Dr. Christopher Anderson, Senior Director at GSX
Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 - The 2018 GTCM Update: Significance and Impact
Various entities have attempted to capture the skills needed to be successful in the geospatial field. In the early 2000s, the US Department of Labor (DOL) recognized that the geospatial workforce was increasing in size as well as the importance and the industry needed a useful competency model to serves as a framework to define the field and its membership’s skills more accurately. The USDOL understood that a competency framework could better enable educational institutions to prepare students for geospatial careers and that the GTCM would permit the creation of new occupational titles. The output of this effort was the Geospatial Technology Competency Model (GTCM), which defines technical and generic skills applicable to the geospatial labor market. Competency frameworks must be periodically updated if they are to remain relevant. As such, the USDOL has collaborated with the National GeoTech Center of Excellence to conduct an evaluation and update of the existing GTCM. Join us to discuss the results and implications of the 2018 GTCM update effort.
