If you are running on a track and you are hearing the mile beep before you complete the fourth lap, then your GPS is probably pretty accurate. Especially if you hear the beep about 30 feet before you complete the fourth lap - assuming you are running on a 400 m track...

My thought exactly! Joe needs to describe his track... Joe? Adena

Of course, that thought crossed my mind, but I had always assumed it was a straight 440 yards and not a metric track. I've never measured it nor asked anyone but certainly Jeff's conclusion makes sense. What I can tell you is that when timing for only the quarter mile, the Garmin measures exactly .25 so my assumption remains that it is a 440 track. The bigger question in my mind is the added distance I run if I'm running on the outside of lane 1 and not the inside.
