Summary:

According to the National Association of Realtors, 82% of first-time homebuyers and 78% of repeat buyers use the Internet when searching for a home. In addition, 90% of all homebuyers use a real estate professional. That means that a real estate company’s web site is very important to today’s buyers. The world of mashups has made the house hunting process easier for consumers. Century 21 Real Estate, for one, is taking advantage of the technology. The company now has a beta version of the Century 21 Property Search Gold application on their web site, which is a mashup using Microsoft’s Virtual Earth, MapPoint and property listings. This application is designed to make searching for a new house not only easier, but more comprehensive and interesting as well.

While you can still search the traditional (non-mapping) way, there is a link to CENTURY 21 Property Search Gold at the bottom. Clicking on this brings you to a market search page.

Up comes a map and a selection of properties which you can search based on price, number of bedrooms, or other criteria. (Click for larger image)

You can zoom in and out, re-center the map, and shift to an image or combination of map and image. This is an example of the level of detail to which you can zoom, including imagery of the neighborhood. (Click for larger image)

Clicking on a Century 21 sign brings up more information about that property. (Click for larger image)

You can look at a photo gallery of the property. (Click for larger image)

A nice touch - Century 21’s application offers neighborhood statistics along with links to the local school web sites. It also provides a map of the school locations surrounding the selected property. (Click for larger image)

So, if you are looking for a new place to live or just want to see what is on the market in your area, this is a helpful site.
