1st National Conference & Exhibition on Land Survey & Mapping

Survey India 2014, first of its kind conference and exhibition on land survey and mapping focused on the new and upcoming equipments for surveying. Initiated with the objective to bring together the government departments, PSUs and industry users of land survey and mapping, it received an overwhelming response with over three hundred delegates participating in the conference and visiting exhibition.

Tarun Vijay Cheif Guest
Shri Tarun Vijay, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha)
on 9 July addressed alarge audience from industry, government and academia. He talked the resolve of government for robust infrastructure and acknowledged that survey and mapping is one of the core activities for such developmental projects. He quoted from cultural history how location has been an integral part of rituals since ages.

Kaushik Chakraborty, Vice President, Hexagon India talked about the latest surveying equipments now available with Hexagon, which offers accurate and precise information. He highlighted the need to accept these latest technologies.

New Paradigms in Survey & Mapping
Sanjeev Trehan, Regional Manager, Geospatial, SAARC, Trimble, Navigation India presented the usage of latest techniques to deliver the data needs. He highlighted what difference it can make in projects with efficient tools and techniques. In his talk he spoke about UAVs which are emerging as latest survey platform.

Dr A Jeyaram, Advisor, RS & BD, Secon Private Limited in his presentation talked of emerging trend in survey and their potential applications. He mentioned about high precision surveying equipments which are making it easier to conduct land survey.

Vinod Kumar, IFS, Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Haryana gave a presentation on use of airborne LiDAR for forest inventory mapping including their comprehensive parameters. His presentation emphasized on use of new techniques which can deliver quick results. Watch @ YouTube 
Dhiraj Goel, Programme Head- Data Management Projcets, ESRI India (NIIT GIS)
mentioned how new and innovative technologies from Esri is helping the users. He mentioned how LiDAR data can be used in ArcGIS. Watch @ YouTube 
Gaurav Mishra, NVIDIA gave a presentation on processing of data. He mentioned about the impact and relevance of time in decision making, wherein accelerated computing has emerged as a important element in geospatial industry.

Survey & Mapping Users Perspective
Dr R S Hooda, Chief Scientist, HARSAC talked about the relevance of satellite imagery. He mentioned the use of imagery for monitoring forest and encroachment area. He also spoke about how survey provides precise data and along with satellite imagery it can provide correct ground situation.

Neeraj Agarwal, GM (Civil), Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation gave presentation on journey and milestones of freight corridor by Indian railways. His presentation emphasized on the present situation and ongoing activities of DFCC.

Shri P K Tyagi, JGM (T&S), Rites Limited mentioned the process of survey validation done with the help of total station as for railway track high precision accuracy is required. He said that with technology it has become convenient to achieve desired accuracy. Watch @ YouTube 
Atul Kumar, Chief General Manager, National Highway Authority of India shared his experience and put forward his expectation from the industry. Dr. Seema Parihar, Joint Director, DCRC gave an overview of her project on gender parity - Gender Atlas of India: A Geospatial Perspective. This project is funded by Ministry of Women and Child and work on first two series is almost over.

UAVs in Land Survey
VS Srinivasan, Tata Advanced Systems shared the views on use of UAVs for land survey. He emphasized on the need for government and regulatory authorities to have positive approach towards the emerging technologies like UAVs. Watch @ YouTube 
Siddharth Sivaraman, Senior Advisor, Kadet Defence Systems gave presentation on wide areas where UAVs can be used. He mentioned about the demand which should come from the end users. Gangadhar Rao, Director, RSI Softech gave presentation on usage of aerial photographs taken through UAVs in creating 3D city models, which can be used by municipal corporations and utility service managers. Watch @ YouTube

Anil NP, FARO India showcased FARO terrestrial laser scanner and gave a presentation on evolution of land surveying equipment and the latest survey tools from FARO. Watch @ YouTube 
Vikram Jasrotia,Business Development Manager, Leica Geosystems gave a presentation on Leica combined scanning utility that include scanning combined with total station. He gave an example of mountain Mont Blanc which was mapped with the help of Leica scanning utility. Watch @ YouTube

Michael Mayer, Assistant Director- International Sales, RIEGL Laser Measurement Systems GmbH demonstrated Riegl VUX1 laser scanner which is survey grade laser scanner which can be used on UAV platform. Sumit Katyal, Director, Asim Navigation India Pvt Ltd demonstrated action camera by Garmin. He mentioned about the products from Garmin which can be easily placed on helmet or backpack and comes with built in GPS facility.

Maj Gen RC Padhi, Head, IISM mentioned that survey and mapping concept has changed in past few decades. But there should be some measures in this field to generate employment. Watch @ YouTube 
DN Pathak, Superintending Surveyor, Survey of India highlighted that capacity building is not at par with technology. He emphasized that there is need for trained professional to capture and process data for survey & mapping.
