Two items are noteworthy this week:

It was announced yesterday that Preetha Pulusani has assumed the role of President of Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions.Jim Taylor, CEO of Intergraph said that, "This appointment will complete the plan to consolidate our commercial and government mapping and GIS organizations into a single international vertical business within Intergraph." Things are looking decidedly brighter these days for Intergraph and Ms.Pulusani's ascension to this position signals a further push by Intergraph to promote vertical industry solutions.Ms.Pulusani's ability to effectively direct the software development strengths of both Huntsville and Intergraph India has brought many fine solutions to its client base, in addition to enhancing the GeoMedia product line.

Also, I found it unfortunate that MapInfo decided not to invite the press to MapWorld this month and limited its public exposure to only the location-based services "mini-conference." As a public company, I find it somewhat disconcerting that industry analysts would not be allowed to hear presentations by both its CEO as well as its users.MapInfo has taken a huge hit to its stock price recently, as its primary user base, the telecommunications industry, led NASDAQ into "bear market" territory.I am hopeful that they will reconsider their position for next year.
