I am a GIS Specialist at Stanford University.I was a GIS student assistant for the Department of Transportation for 7 months before I got this job.
What is your background?
I have a BA in Geography/Environmental Studies from UCLA.I was a Jr.High Math and Science teacher for 2 years.Then, I took about seven courses in GIS at the UCR Extension.I received a little on the job training as the student assistant at CalTrans.

What is the accomplishment of which you are most proud.
I am most proud of my current job at the University.
What does your typical day or week look like?
I support Graduate students and faculty who want to use GIS in their research.I provide software support, data and I manage our web site and site license.I spend at least 2 hours a day on e-mail, 1-3 attending meetings, 3 hours available for GIS reference questions, and 1-10 hours each week on project development for demonstrations of GIS.
Why is GIS an exciting industry in which to participate?
GIS is so new and growing so rapidly that I don't get bored.I introduce GIS to people all the time and re-experience their excitement.
What is the most important ''next thing'' that will happen in GIS?
I think the growth in GIS on the Internet is the NEXT thing.
Before you came to GIS, what did you think your career would be in?
Education or International Development.
