Jill Saligoe-Simmel serves on the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) Board of Directors and is on the NSGIC Homeland Security workgroup. She is the president of the Indiana Geographic Information Council, Inc (IGIC) and chair of the Indiana GIS Initiative since 1997. Through the work of IGIC, GIS is a top IT priority for the state’s homeland security authority. As such, she works with the Indiana Counter-Terrorism and Security Council (CTASC) to address GIS for homeland security and emergency management through the new Crisis Response Mapping Center.
Jill received her Ph.D. in Resource Geography from Oregon State University, M.A. from Indiana State University and B.S. from Ball State University, both in Physical Geography. Her research interests are in GIS policy and planning, natural resources planning and management, and geospatial analysis. She has more than 13 years of experience in GIS, including teaching, research, analysis, and data development. Jill is an Adjunct Professor with the Center for Earth and Environmental Science at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
