Robert Edwards established the MapTools Company in 1995 to provide MapInfo and ArcView users with special-purpose software for working with aerial photos. More recently, the MapTools SDK was introduced to give MapInfo users a software toolbox for developing MapBasic applications. Mr. Edwards was a senior staff member in the Geographic Data Systems group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1995, responsible for developing innovative GIS techniques and for advising Laboratory staff on the effective use of computers for geographic data applications.
