Job Description

We are looking for a creative individual who knows how to design actionable business research and who has the critical technical skills to get the job done. We're Allstate Research and Planning Center located in Menlo Park, CA (part of Allstate Insurance Company), a multidisciplinary group conducting research on all major facets of the insurance business. If you are the person we're looking for, you'll be energized by the opportunity to conduct all phases of high-impact, basic research while working in a multi-disciplined, collaborative environment. You will enjoy generating new ideas of how to tackle business problems with actionable research results. It is a plus if you can exhibit strong grounding in the use of GIS, relational database and other similar software programs in your research. If you don't have strong understanding of the insurance industry, you'll be eager to quickly grasp its essentials and begin leveraging that new knowledge in your work.

Job Requirements

SCOPE
Design, manage, and conduct research projects. Conduct analyses and develop models to estimate and project demographic, consumer expenditure, and customer information for custom and standard geographies. Also conduct other market analyses, provide actionable insights, and interpret and make recommendations for decision makers.


RESPONSIBILITIES
• Project design and management
• Develop research-based solutions to strategic business issues and problems
• Acquire create, organize, integrate and analyze relevant data
• Create demographic estimates, forecasts, and projections for custom (contiguous areas, line segments, local market definitions, etc.) and standard geographies
• Track leading indicators of market, population, household, and consumer behavior trends
• Communicate project progress to colleagues and management
• Work with teams of other researchers to integrate findings, estimates, and projections into company tactics


SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Masters degree in demography, geography, math, statistics, geo statistics, geo-matics
• Knowledge of census, other population/household, climate, traffic, navigation and GPS data, cartography, as well as other sources of geographic based data
• Experience with demographic research, household/population forecasting and estimating techniques
• Integration and linkage of data from multiple sources to common geographic units, custom built polygons, navigation defined routes, or other irregularly defined areas, etc.
• Ability to transform spatially referenced data to defined area, polygon, routes, etc.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills and ability to design analysis plans using multiple internal and external data sources and geographic information systems
• Database SQL, table joins/matches, extraction, pivot table manipulations
• Experience and proficiency with Tactician GIS or similar GIS, Access, Oracle, SAS; large database manipulation and interpretation preferred
• Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
• 2 or more years experience in research and business environment
