Intermap is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Lead Engineer - PSD. This position is regular, full time Engineering position and based in our Engineering office in Calgary, Alberta Canada.
Job Description:
The Production Systems Department develops, deploys, maintains, and supports geospatial production systems for our main customer - Intermaps Operations Division. Three levels of support are provided:
Level 1 focuses on keeping the current systems up and running
Level 2 efforts are maintenance and improvements to existing systems
Level 3 efforts are Capital Development of new innovative production systems.
The Production Systems Department is looking for a technical lead to support Level 3 Capital Development. This position requires a person with an innate ability to understand corporate and customer needs from a big picture perspective and take these through system design, implementation, validation and transition to reality and production. The position also requires ongoing maintenance and support of the newly transitioned and existing systems and processes as a primary responsibility of the department.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Primary:
Coordinate, motivate, and lead the development team to create and build advanced mapping and geospatial production systems
Leverage in house expertise to facilitate system architecture and design to enable the right technology
Lead multiple concurrent development projects to success within scope, budget and schedule
Provide customer interaction leadership and diplomacy for development team set the example
Provide technical leadership and assist PM with project definition: scope, time, and cost baseline development to ensure project budget and schedule can be managed to within +-5%
Lead evaluation of COTS options and third party technologies for build vs. buy decisions
Provide leadership and technical expertise in all aspects of the engineering development cycle including: detailed requirements, architecture and design, implementation, code reviews, code standardization, unit and ATP testing, configuration management, transition, support for custom and COTS geospatial production systems
Ensure development of accurate, consistent, and usable technical and project documents including training and process documentation
Supervise and monitor the performance and accountability of technical development team
Learn and become subject matter expert on new systems as well as one or more of the existing systems
Provide periodic reporting to operations and management
Prepare Operations report and report status of key capital development activities at weekly Ops meetings
Provide weekly status reports and meetings with PSD department manager
Build and maintain professional relationship within PSD, Engineering & Technology Division, and external team members
International travel may be required
Job Requirements
Geomatics, Software, Electrical Engineering, physical science, or math degree or demonstrated equivalence
Minimum 3-5 years experience in the remote sensing industry with 5-10 years in engineering field with experience in design and development of
o Object oriented and client server applications
o Web applications using Java Server Pages and Java Servlets
o Databases and database driven applications
o Data production environments
Minimum 2 years in a team leadership role
Understanding of airborne or space borne radar data and processing techniques, geospatial mapping processes and applications would be an asset
Familiarity with radar data interpretation, geospatial mapping processes and applications, as well as large scale mapsheet production or equivalent experience would be an asset.
Development experience in: Java and J2EE technologies (JSP, Beans, Servlets), C++, Oracle, SQL, PERL, Tomcat, OAS, JDeveloper,.NET, UML
Familiarity with GIS or other COTS systems such as: PCI, ERDAS, ER Mapper, ESRI ArcGIS, MapInfo, OpenGIS standards (WMS)
