Job Description

Intermap is seeking qualified candidates for the position of PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER. Two positions are open. One position will be based in Intermap’s Calgary office and the other in Munich, Germany. The expectation is that 20% of time is dedicated to travel to customer and other Intermap facilities.

Job Description Summary:
The Strategic Business Development Division’s role is to expand Intermap’s customer and revenue base through the product development that will lead to recurring revenue generation. Within this group, the Product Development Manager is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the technical components of product development, i.e. managing all of the technology development for a map visualization database including getting a product launched into the marketplace. The Product Development Manager has the following direct reports: Customer Program Manager, Application Engineer and Technician. This position reports to the Director of Product Development.

The Product Development Manager works closely with a number of teams including:
• The product development team which includes customer program managers, applications engineers and application technicians.
• The strategic business development team which includes business development, channel management and corporate marketing support
• Operational teams that provide the operational infrastructures to support the product
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work with the Director of Product Development to set and maintain product priorities.
• Provide first line management for the product development team, particularly related to communication, risk assessment, estimating, scheduling and tracking.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight for the development team and manage the development of user/technology specification for map database products by:
o Supporting the customer program managers and consolidating their input into the overall product plan
o Managing the development of SW/data prototypes implemented by the application staff in support of requirements discovery
o Communicate development status and other relevant project information to the Director of Product Development and to key stakeholders
• Manage the development of the technical sections of the business plan into operations.
• Manage the transition of the plan into the final operational entity.
• Become the initial customer advocate for the product and then manage transition of this role.

Job Requirements

• The Product Development Manager will have at least 8 years of management experience, including the management of capital budgets and personnel.
• A bachelors degree in technology or a management related discipline is required.
• Experience with software or data processing products would be considered a strong advantage, especially if these are focused within the Geospatial industry.

The ideal Product Development Manager will have a thorough knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, and possess a good understanding of software and hardware development, process, methodologies and management. An experienced manager of people, the ideal candidate will have a strong track record of demonstrated personnel management, problem solving abilities, and strong capabilities in planning, organizing and progress control.

The ability to negotiate, delegate and ability to work with all levels of an organization is key. Experience managing projects with significant risks relating to scope, technology, cost, and schedule is especially helpful.
