As Product Manager, you will guide a team that is charged with a product line contribution. This extends from increasing the profitability of existing products to developing new products for the company. You will build products from existing ideas, and help to develop new ideas based on your industry experience and your contact with customers and prospects. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must enjoy spending time in the market to understand their problems, and find innovative solutions for the broader market.
You must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. You will work with an engineering counterpart to define product release requirements. You will work with marketing communications to define the go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for your product offering, occasionally working with the sales channel and key customers.
Specifically, you will be responsible for driving the direction of the mapping products for the infrastructure division within Autodesk. This includes close interaction with a variety of highly technical individuals and organizations, including; internal developers, managers, and directors, external system integrators, 3rd party application developers, and IT professionals from potential and existing clients. As the mapping product serves as the platform for many of the products within the division you will need to stay abreast of these products and their intended direction.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Market analysis
Works with key customers and prospects to identify unsolved problems in the market and evaluates their urgency, pervasiveness, and value to the market and recommends innovative approaches to solving those problems.
Performs both business and product competitive analysis documenting strengths and weaknesses and methods of positioning
Performs competitive market analysis to help guide product decisions
Quantitative Analysis
Initiate and drive market analysis projects, including evaluating metrics for Autodesk's mapping business and opportunities globally.
Feature by feature comparisons of competitive software offerings.
Strategic Planning
Generate feedback from customers and prepares, creates, and delivers marketing strategy for the ISD Mapping & Enterprise Group.
Product Planning
Using input from different sources and partner groups in the corporation, the Industry marketing manager delivers and distributes standard templates for all products and services within the GIS Map Product Portfolio which provides the direction required for the development of all customer marketing messages.
Manage all aspects of product planning in conjunction with multiple organizations within the company
Manage the product lifecycle using ROI and other metrics to guide business decisions
Gather data detailing customer process. Identify segments of the customer's process that are absent or that are poorly addressed in our products.
Management
Management of relationships and programs with critical developers within key industries, in concordance with other corporate organizations.
Manages product specific user groups in coordination with other corporate organizations.
Primary contact and presenter for customer interaction for briefing center and field events.

Document Responsibility
Create all necessary documentation as part of the ISD product planning process including MRD, Personas, opportunity assessment, and product plans of record.
Defines, project manages, communicates to field teams, writes, edits, tests, and gets legal approval for PowerPoint presentations, training content, Questions and Answers (Q&A).
Defines, project manages, communicates to field teams, writes, edits, tests, and gets legal approval for white papers, customer success stories, trial CDs. Same responsibility for documents not currently existing such as; FAQs, F&Bs, PPTs, and other sales tools for the Mapping Industry specifically.
Develop and deliver industry presentations within Autodesk or for the public.
Drives the creation of industry marketing deliverables, i.e.; solutions' brochures, demo CDs, scripted demos, market research projects, syndicated research, industry analysis, industry concept/vision papers, customer surveys, editorials, etc.
Coordinate with WW Marketing on marketing activities including industry events, trade shows and executive briefings
Key Interfaces
Work with customers, prospects, and sales to help develop product strategy
Facilitate communication with engineering, product management, business development, and team with respect to vertical market strategies and solutions development.
Facilitate day-to-day awareness of Autodesk as a provider of solutions to the GIS industry.
Coordinate within ISD to ensure a consistent PR strategy.
Interact with ISD Web eMarketing Manager and GIS team to develop and implement core GIS Web Strategy.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
In depth knowledge of GIS and Mapping industries is required.
Exposure to international projects is highly desirable.
A fundamental commitment to user oriented product management.
Desired Knowledge/Skills:
Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.
Strong technical skills, including detailed understanding of current database technologies and exposure and understanding of a variety of APIs.
Strong writing skills.
Experience with formal analysis methodologies including persona/archetype creation and contextual inquiry.
Excellent ability for skillful networking and interactions with others.
Strategic thinking and ability to manage long-term and cross-product issues.
Work Experience:
10+ years of product management and/or marketing in the GIS and Mapping industries.
