We are currently seeking to fill a Senior Database Consultant position, based out of our corporate headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin. The position will require some travel and work at client sites across the U.S.
This position will provide leadership in the design, development, migration and deployment of spatially-enabled databases and related business databases. The majority of work will involve use of ESRI ArcGIS Desktop, Geodatabase, ArcSDE solutions as well as system design software, Oracle RDBMS (including Spatial), SQL Server DBMS and Microsoft Access technologies. Applied experience is required in the migration of ESRI coverage, shape file, and CAD data into Geodatabase and ArcSDE structures. In addition, knowledge of data migration methods in general is required for the integration of disparate databases. The position will be expected to help lead client GIS/IS staff and facilitate GeoAnalytics staff in the completion of various enterprise database and application development projects involving GIS.
As the Senior Database Consultant you will focus on:
• Leading design, development, migration and deployment of spatially-enabled databases and related business databases and related system components
• Gathering customer business requirements and developing logical and physical database designs
• Implementing database architecture designs, including memory and storage configuration and security strategies for database users and application roles
• Developing and executing data conversion/creation procedures to support legacy data migration into RDBMS systems, Geodatabases and ArcSDE
• Deploying GIS-enabled databases at customer sites, including installation of relational database technology and GIS middleware, and implementing database schemas and table structures required to store spatial and non-spatial attribute data
• Developing organizational and operational models for enterprise GIS data management
• Developing database stored procedures and triggers to supplement GIS-based business applications
• Creating technical and user documentation related to system development work
• Actively participating in project team communication, coordination, interaction and management activities
• Developing database structures for use in Analytical Applications, both tabular and spatial
• Developing automated ETL systems, both tabular and spatial

Job Requirements
As a qualified candidate you will possess the following skills and experience:
• Minimum five years experience implementing IS/GIS systems in production environments, with specific expertise utilizing ESRI ArcInfo and ArcGIS
• Minimum three years experience installing, designing, and deploying relational database technologies, specifically Oracle 8i/9i/10g (including Spatial), MS SQL Server 2005 and ESRI GIS database solutions including Geodatabases and ArcSDE 8/9
• Familiar with data restructuring techniques based on relational principles including normalization and referential integrity. Familiarity with Geodatabase model development
• Knowledge of SQL and experience working with multiple operating systems and hardware platforms with special emphasis on UNIX and Windows OS versions
• Understanding of the different methods of transaction handling between spatial and tabular systems
• Experience with data warehousing, automated ETL, data profiling and cleansing, integration of multiple source databases, OLAP structures, and how they integrate or feed into Business Intelligence interfaces
• Application programming skills and production experience including PLSQL (Oracle) and T-SQL (Microsoft) for stored procedure development and VB, AML, Python, etc. for application development
• Understanding of different approaches involving stored procedures vs client application processing
• System design and modeling techniques, including experience with industry standard methodology and tools (UML notation in Visio, Rational Rose, RUP, Agile, Enterprise Architect, ERD notation in Visio, ERStudio, etc.)
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills and experience working closely with clients
• Bachelor of Science degree (Computer Science, GIS, Engineering, Mathematics or similar technical field). Advanced degree preferred.
Secondary and/or Additional skills could include:
• Work experience setting up and/or supporting ESRI ArcIMS applications
• Work experience with other RDBMS such as SQL Server, DB2, or Sybase
• Familiarity with other GIS software solutions such as AutoDesk AutoCad, Intergraph GeoMedia, and Bentley Microstation
• ESRI ModelBuilder and related scripting languages such as Python for spatial data management and geoprocessing
• Business requirements definition and use case development
