Job Description

Applied Geographics, Inc. (AppGeo) has an opening in our Manchester, CT office and seeks a talented and motivated person to join the company’s GIS consulting team as a Database Administrator, working primarily with spatial data. The DBA will be responsible for designing, building and implementing new databases in addition to managing and supporting a variety of existing databases.

The successful applicant will join a professional staff focused on planning and applying GIS and related technologies to satisfy specific customer needs using ArcGIS software and applications for spatial data management. Web development experience is a plus.

Good communication skills are required for both client and consulting partner interaction, and for supporting AppGeo project managers and specialists, e.g. network administrator and software development staff.

Responsibilities:
-Plan and design databases
-Install, configure and manage SQL Server RDBMS
-Create, maintain and implement programs for data conversions
-Tune database parameters for optimal system performance
-Participate in architecture discussions and recommend changes
-Creation and optimization of SQL queries
-Maintain data consistency between different data servers
-Support ETL of large spatial data sets
-Analyze, recommend and implement process improvements
-Provide monitoring and troubleshooting of database operations

Job Requirements

Candidates should have, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and 3+ experience. Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.
