GIS Draughting Technician   Nov 2008 - Present

•  Maintaining and updating the integrity of Virgin Media’s bespoke GIS system
•  Provide key support for end users of the geospatial software and data and provide assistance during the transition to Intergraph’s G/Technology Gcomms
•  Provide data updates to Network Engineers ranging from the cabling network of fibre, telco and coax from the head ends to ODF, cabinets and to customer premises
•  Communicate regularly with Access Planners and contractors to ensure the accuracy of as built records
•  Analyze spatial information, edit data, maps, and present the results of all these operations
•  Work within the Company guidelines and procedures to deliver all work within the required deadlines
•  Use own experience to assist and advise colleagues and offer solutions to their problems.
•  Work as part of a team to provide specialised and technical advice and operational information to a wide range of internal and external customers and contractors.

Key Achievements
•  Created a GIS Training Manual covering the draughting standards of all network data sets
•  25 Virgin Media Shouts for high performance in 2010 and Employee of the month in September
•  Work to 97% SLA draughting an average of 80 as built drawings and capturing 145km of cable

EARLY CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
•  Managed a large portfolio of work with a financial value of £3m including major investment projects and renewable energy.
•  Sole responsibility for capturing all overhead line network changes adding 3,000 wood poles and over 270km of overhead lines.
•  Implemented a Quality Management suggestion to increase low voltage overhead line data captured by 50%.
•  Targeted outstanding data older than 100 days by tracking information and reducing plant jobs from 155 to 52 in 3 months.
•  Assist with the Storm Management Program to assist network engineers solve faults faster

Towards a Global Licensing Framework for Geospatial Data

Is it time for a global licensing framework for geospatial data? The GSDI Legal and Economic Working group thinks so and offered a presentation and a way forward at the GSDI 13 conference held in Quebec City in May. The effort aims to harmonize existing licensing without changing fundamental access policies and funding models and be compatible with the diferences in national legal systems.
