Centralia College East in Morton, in Washington State, is offering two courses on geographic information systems this fall and winter. One is an intro and the second covers GIS. Per the school, students will get credit and perhaps certificates from Esri (I guess from taking their free online courses).

The California Geological Survey is giving away free maps until Sept 24 to reduce inventory before moving to a smaller store.

The store is located on the USGS campus at 345 Middlefield Road in Menlo Park, Calif. Free maps will be available during regular business hours, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The give-away maps, which normally sell for $8. –$15., include all topographic maps for areas outside California, and all thematic maps outside California.
