Esri is looking for 100 pre and in-service teachers to attend its Teachers Teaching Teachers GIS Institute (T3G) professional development workshop next year. It's for K-university teachers, admins and others. There will be special attention paid to statewide license users and implementations. The event is in Redlands in June 2013 and attendees are expected to lead professional development back in their instituation/area.
The application (pdf) is expected to take 4-8 hours to fill out and includes a short essay about an idea derived form looking at Story Maps and the creation of an ArcGIS Online map. The only software to be used during the event seems to be ArcGIS Online.
The Los Angeles Unified School Districts claim to have cut 80% out of its maintenance request processing budget (I'm not sure what that is but I guess it's the people who used to take the calls, write up work orders, etc.) after eight months of using a CitySourced/IBM crowdsourcing solution (w/ Esri) to identify needed respairs. Students, faculty and staff can all report broken toilets, graffitti and other physica plant issues. The article and video suggest GIS is somehow used to locate the things that need fixing; I'd guess the report includes putting a dot on a floor layout or something.

Bulldog Mobile is an opt-in system in which users can register their phones online and create personalized profiles, with all data provided encrypted to protect the privacy of the user. If a registered student calls the YPD from his or her cellphone, a dispatcher will instantly access the user’s profile information — including physical description, residential college, class schedule and medical conditions — and will be able to track the GPS location of the phone call.

Students are not excited about it; it was launched in Aug 2011.
The service only activates when a person places a phone call But students’ response to this new safety service has been mixed. Out of 10 students interviewed, only two said they had registered for the system, one said he intended to sign up for the service and the others said they have not registered and do not feel the need to do so in the future.
Jéssica Maguilnik Leão ’16 activated Bulldog Mobile on her phone when she arrived on campus in August but said she is disappointed with the service, explaining that when she called the YPD to request assistance, security escorts took 15 minutes to arrive to Old Campus.
