ERMA (proto Geoplatform.gov) is Alive and Well in the Arctic

Wednesday, August 1st 2012
By Adena Schutzberg

Remember during the Deep Water Horizon spill a quick services fed map appeared that many thought was geoplatform.gov? It was built on code from UNH (and includes Google Maps, MapServer and OpenLayers, see p 7. of this user guide pdf) and went up in two weeks? In the end Geoplatform.gov was moved to ArcGIS Online.

ERMA is still doing good work, this time in the Alaskan artic where it will serve as a resource for managmenet and response as Shell plans drilling exploratory wells in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas later this summer. Data is provided by, among others, Alaska Ocean Observing System, the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the state’s Arctic boroughs.

David Hayes, the Deputy Secretary for the U. S. Department of the Interior (DOI) noted this app was in the works in his keynote at the 2012 FedUC (APB coverage).
