Still Working to Map Alaska and other Government GIS News

Alaska remains the only state in the U.S. that has not been digitally mapped on a statewide basis and its maps do not meet National Map Accuracy Standards.

But, fed and state officials are working on Alaska's Statewide Digital Mapping Initiative.

Citing a lack of previous governance and planning around geospatial infrastructure, the New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA) says it is looking to consolidate the technology it uses to undertake geospatial planning into a single shared services panel. 

The organisation expects to spend $2.4 million on the project over two years.

Sounds sort of like the Geospatial Line of Business and Geoplatform.gov efforts here in the U.S. And, this is the same, too:

As part of this decision, the NZTA has announced it will use ESRI ArcGIS as its core geospatial suite, with all other systems to work in conjunction.

A live flood warning system has gone online as the UK experiences unseasonable amounts of heavy rain.

You can search by post code for flood alerts (posted within the last 15 minutes for England and Wales. The data is from the Environment Agency's nationwide network of monitoring stations and was built by Shrewsbury-based firm Shoothill. Tech: Windows Azure and Bing Maps.
