What is Geodesign? Scientific American Chimes In

Larry Greenemeier, an associate editor for Scientific American published his thoughts on geodesign after attending the Geodesign Summit in Redlands last week. He writes using the backdrop of Hurricane Sandy and asks whether those who will rebuild will take "geographic design" into consideration. The article is worth reading. His definition is as follows:

Geodesign is an approach to city planning, land use and natural resource management that takes into account the tendency in recent years to overdevelop land at the expense of natural habitats, as well as population growth and climate change, which have left communities increasingly vulnerable to natural disasters.
