Holovaty Leaving EveryBlock

Thursday, August 16th 2012
By Adena Schutzberg

Adrian Holovaty, the man behind the successful Knight News Challenge grant funded EveryBlock is moving on. The site, of which he is appropriately proud offers hyperlocal data on everything from crime to restaurant sanitation issues, was acquired by MSNBC.COM in 2009. Holovaty also created the early Google Maps mashup Chicagocrime.org and co-created the Web application framework Django.

While the EveryBlock open source code hasn't been used much, the ideas of open data and the mapping platform he created have been a resource for many other people and businesses.

Holovaty has not indicated what he'll do next, just that he's ready for the next thing.
