Does Apple really need over half a MB of serving capacity for each map query per second?

That's what anonymous person (with Grace Hopper's picture!) suggests at a blog called Hemiposterical. Anonymous person is even cited in the Register discussing how iOS was more valuable to Google than Android. Is that true even for the superfancy vector maps?
