The Defense Department’s new Unmanned Systems Integrated Roadmap (pdf), released December 23, has a number of challenges for the years ahead.
- pinpoint inertial guidance systems that are jam-proof
- camera-mounted, loitering munitions that get launched from an unmanned "mothership" and hunt targets in deadly "swarms."
- offloading as many human tasks as possible onto machines
