Earthmine 3D for Emergency Response and other Government GIS News

Tuesday, June 19th 2012
By Adena Schutzberg

Columbia County, CA is investing $75K for 3D technology to enhance emergency response. The data will be updated every two years. I immediately thought this was a discussion of a Pictometry implementation, but that's not 3D. The article did not mention Pictometry (and that company is great at getting ink) so I watched the two minute video. I saw the Bing and Esri logos on the current maps, but only once did I hear the name of the vendor: Earthmine.

new study of manufacturing employment by the Investigative Reporting Workshop at American University shows that factory jobs declined by nearly half since the peak in 1979, when there were 21 million manufacturing workers.

But the researchers also found that manufacturing employment grew in some states, all of them west of the Mississippi River. And many communities, such as York, Pa., still see manufacturing as integral to their survival
