The Delaware Department of Education awarded a $57,623 grant to the Cape Henlopen School District this November that will kickstart a science, technology, engineering, arts and math program for 60 fifth-graders.

Among the tech they will use in this STEAM program is GIS. A local will teach the teachers.

Nicole Minni, an associate policy scientist and graphics specialist at the University of Delaware, as well as a mother of five Cape students, will direct teachers on how to use geographic information systems. The GIS can express different types of data, from demographics to historical data, in mapping format.

The first Summer Institute on Digital Mapping and Art History, sponsored by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, will take place at Middlebury College August 3-15. The two-week program is now accepting applications for fellowships.

The program is intended for all art historians of any rank (including graduate students, curators, or independent scholars) with a scholarly problem related to spatial evidence or questions.

We need to stop talking to ourselves and speak to those in other fields!
