3D Laser Mapping Ltd

We are the UK's only supplier of TerraSolid software, such as TerraScan and TerraPhoto. These applications have become the industry standard for airborne LIDAR processing. The combination of easy-to-use visualisation and advanced filtering features makes it had to beat. The software runs in the MicroStation CAD environment and we are also a Bentley MicroStation reseller. Produced by Innovmetric Software, PolyWorks is a powerful point cloud software solution that processes data obtained from any short-range, mid-range, or long-range 3D scanner. Originally developed to perform point-cloud-based inspection and reverse-engineering tasks for manufacturing applications, PolyWorks has now become the first choice point cloud software system within the automotive industry thanks to the accuracy and robustness of its tools. Since 2000, InnovMetric has been working in close collaboration with surveyors and scanner manufacturers, applying its vast experience in processing very large point clouds to meet the specific needs of the surveying community. Today, surveyors and engineers using PolyWorks in their daily work benefit from outstanding scan alignment, geo-referencing, measurement, feature extraction, and visualisation capabilities to produce survey-accurate results and to efficiently deliver valuable extracted elements to downstream software suites such as AutoCAD® and MicroStation®.

Towards a Global Licensing Framework for Geospatial Data

Is it time for a global licensing framework for geospatial data? The GSDI Legal and Economic Working group thinks so and offered a presentation and a way forward at the GSDI 13 conference held in Quebec City in May. The effort aims to harmonize existing licensing without changing fundamental access policies and funding models and be compatible with the diferences in national legal systems. That's a tall order, but an important one as the world moves toward geodata sharing. Geoff Zeiss reports.
