Overview
ACORN was the first geodemographic classification available in Great
Britain. Following many updates, it remains today the most respected and
widely used consumer classification in the country. It combines geography
with demographics, places where people live with their underlying
characteristics, to create a tool for understanding different types of
people in different areas across Great Britain or the United Kingdom.
As many as 79 different data items, carefully screened from some 9,000
available demographics, are incorporated into the ACORN classification. This
means that all the significant factors - such as age, sex, marital status,
occupation, economic position, education, home ownership and car ownership
are covered to give a very full and comprehensive picture of socio-economic
status.
