ArcGIS Explorer

Overview

ArcGIS Explorer is a free download that allows anyone to access and integrate various Web services and local data such as shapefiles, file geodatabases, imagery, and KML. You can use it to access the full GIS capabilities of ArcGIS Server including geoprocessing. You can also use ArcGIS Explorer to connect directly to a variety of free, ready-to-use globe services hosted by ESRI. With ArcGIS Explorer, you can publish ArcGIS Server capabilities within your organization or to anyone on the Web. Content or tasks for ArcGIS Explorer can be authored using ArcGIS Desktop, and then published to ArcGIS Explorer via ArcGIS Server. Tasks may include advanced geoprocessing and GIS analytic capabilities such as viewshed analysis, terrain profiling, and other ArcGIS Server functions. No programming is necessary to create these tasks, but a software developer kit (SDK) is available if you want to create custom tasks or connect to custom services.
