Satellite images area nowadays being use in order to obtain important updated information regarding the land use and land cover because of : - the possibility to cover vast areas of the territory - the affordable costs of the data - the possibility to acquire data of the area of interest when needed - the existence of an archive of satellite images making it possible to analyse changes on time - the spectral information contained in a satellite image which renders it valuable in identifying the different types of land cover This technology could be applied with great results for the individuation and monitoring of erosion processes and deforestation, mangroves, individuation of different types of forests, vegetation, agricultural and urban areas, water sources, as well as, analysing changes that could occur in time.
