The LiDAR processing tools from the technology start-up rapidlasso GmbH are widely known for their high productivity. They combine robust algorithms with efficient I/O and clever memory management to achieve high throughputs for data sets containing billions of points. The company's LAStools software suite has already achieved deep market penetration and is heavily used in the commercial sector, government agencies, research labs, and educational institutions. Meanwhile, rapidlasso's open-source compressor, LASzip, is the de facto industry standard for compressed LiDAR and won the 2012 Geospatial World Forum Technology Innovation Award. It was also voted into the final round of the 10 best products nominated for the 2012 Wichmann Innovations Award at this year's INTERGEO. Our flagship product is the LAStools software suite, which is available for licensing. It is a collection of highly efficient, batch-scriptable, multicore command line tools. We have tools to classify, tile, convert, filter, raster, triangulate, contour, clip, and polygonize LiDAR data (to name just a few functions). All of the tools can also be run via a GUI and are available as a LiDAR processing toolbox for ArcGIS versions 9.3, 10.0, and 10.1 of ESRI. See http://lastools.org for details. Another core product is our LiDAR compressor. LASzip achieves lossless compression rates ranging from 1:4 to 1:13 and has become the de facto standard for compressed LiDAR. Our compressed LAZ format has become a popular format for hosting and distributing large amounts of LiDAR. It also has native support in many other software packages. See http://laszip.org for details. We also offer LiDAR consultancy services when needed on-site, and can be contracted to create customized LiDAR processing solutions.
