Broward County Gets GIS Grant and other Education GIS News

The Grainger Foundation has donated $10,000 to Brevard Public Schools [Florida] in support of Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School’s (CBJSHS) new Geospatial Information System (GIS) Program.

The GeoTech Center is looking for feedback on the GTCM.

The GeoTech Center needs your assistance in reviewing our proposed national GTCM-aligned curriculum. We are using a wikisite to capture your feedback and comments. You are welcome to join the wiki to leave comments, or simply email your comments directly to the course lead developer (address on the document).

I had a great chat with my friend Joanne who teaches nursing...online. She was telling me about her latest course on nursing policy. The students each picked a topic, then looked at it from different perspectives. They wrote blog posts, advocacy documents, drafted letters to legislators - it sounded great. I made a suggestion: have them find or create a map on the topic. For exmaple, where different policies were in place or which individuals in an area would be impacted. Mapping is part of any policy discussion, I argued. She agreed. 

And, from another perspective, I thought about how to take her advocacy idea into a policy-related GIS course...
