SRC
announced the company is providing an
API that allows
developers to create "dashups" that provide demographic data. ("Mashups
only with a "d" for demographics, get it?) The announcement was made
earlier this month at the Where 2.0 conference in San Jose, CA. The API
lets developers pull data available from the SRC
freedemographics site, and
not only get at the raw data, but also make maps, charts and reports.
At the conference, SRC offered a group of 600 the opportunity to win
$500 by being the first to create a solution using the API. One
developer
completed
the task in seven minutes.
The still relatively new mapping APIs from the likes of Google,
Microsoft and MapQuest gave us maps and images. It’s about time we got
the data too. Very creative, SRC – kudos!
