Nearly two dozen Bowdoin faculty members are taking a turn as students in a four-day course for faculty titled “Digital Humanities @Bowdoin,” taught January 13-16 as part of the College’s new Digital and Computational Studies Initiative.
The course was over subscribed and is introductory. I found this noteworthy since I mostly think of GIS when I hear about digital humanities. The discipline can be thought of as having
four major categories of digital humanities techniques – image analysis, text analysis, spatial analysis, and network analysis
Among the goals of a three day GIS course from The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS):
Develop mash-ups based on popular web-based GIS applications like Open Street Map [sic] and Google Maps
Interesting we don't see short courses like that in the U.S. - either in person or online. Should we?
NJ Spotlight offers a map of the length of the school day in that state. The governor wants to extend the school day and the school year. I found the map a bit tough to interpret:
