Towson U GIS Center Gets $76K BRAC Award: Edu GIS News

A $76,882 bid was awarded to Towson University's Center for GIS for a GIS system, which according to BRAC Manager Karen Holt, will help BRAC growth and is a web-based land-use planning tool for the region.

Programming and building video games are not on the agenda at Intro2Tek Camp, in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Instead, it's"a fun and structured experience for middle school girls age 10 - 14, who learn GIS and multi-media and explore "lucrative" jobs in science and technology.

The first set of fully "in cloud" textbooks for K-12 were released at last week's  International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference. Previous offerings were "companions" to printed texts. The topics: math and science. Content can be accessed from any device with a browser. One offering is priced per student user and comes to what's described as the cost of a "workbook" per student. To make the deal sweeter to those schools with limited hardware come deals that include discount devices. I'm dreaming about interactive geography texts with accessible GIS apps where students create and analyze patterns at every turn.
