Esri Part of Loma Linda Healthy People Conference and other Health GIS News

Loma Linda University School of Public Health (LLUSPH) is hosting the first Healthy People in Healthy Communities (HPHC), a three-day conference focusing on lifestyle medicine and the built environment as it relates to kids.

HPHC, presented by Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH), will be held March 3-5 on the Loma Linda University campus, which includes the special introductory day on March 3 at ESRI in Redlands.
Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs Secretary Gary Tennis has announced that the department is now offering an interactive map on its Web site that plots the locations of hundreds of prescription drug take-back boxes statewide. ... The interactive mapping tool can be found on the Department of Drug and Alcohol’s Web site,, by clicking on the program’s graphic on the homepage and then clicking on the graphic on the following page to “find a location.”

It was announced in December. The direct link is here and I confirmed there is no take-back location in Centre County. This is one of the situations where the map may not be needed.

Another health marketing map, this time from Kaz, owner of Vicks brands.

Launching today, the Vicks® Moisture Map is an online tool created by team of scientists to help families understand how too little humidity can create issues for the body, pets, and even the home.  The interactive map pinpoints the top 10 driest cities across the country by synthesizing weather data and geographical data from several sources.

The one actual U.S. map (there are others of your body and your home) is quite a disappointment. Yes, you can see the top 10 driest cities and the top 10 humidest ones. But you are asked to "Click on the arrow for a fact about your region!" Sadly, the symbols are not arrows.
