Indonesia’s House of Representatives and all factions in the House Commission VII RI finally accepted the draft Geospatial Information Act which signals the final round of the geospatial information bill since it was prepared in the 1990s.

Tsunami experts in Aceh announced on Wednesday [Apr 6] that they had compiled a comprehensive map of the risk from disasters in the province.

WRI and the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, and Tourism (MECNT) released an interactive map viewer for the Forest Atlas of the Democratic Republic of Congo.  The interactive map viewer is a simplified and easy-to-use version of the more exhaustive information found in the Interactive Forest Atlas of DRC - version 1.0, CD and overview report. The map viewer was developed with support of USAID CARPE, the MacArthur Foundation, ESRI and ERDAS.

The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has launched the initial phase of "Makani" service to serve as a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Portal and a focal point of information and spatial data-related assets. 

The Portal is set to provide easy access to a vital pool of information that helps cut short transactions processing time and cost besides eliminating any overlapping or duplication of processes. It also supports taking informed decisions in a speedy & dynamic manner using latest technological systems in a process that echoes the Municipality's Mission of delivering top quality, effective and customer-centric services.


Vietnamese and French experts gathered in Hanoi on April 5 for a workshop on the development of geographic information system (GIS) in Vietnam.

The workshop aimed to create conditions for French businesses to inquire into prospect for such development, particularly in the areas of housing, transport, agriculture, environmental management, risk prevention, crisis governance and topography. The application of geographic information is expected to help Vietnam in economic development, sustainable growth and prevention of environmental risks and natural disasters.
