I saw Dennis Crowley, Foursquare founder, on a Best Buy ad during the Olympics and didn't get it. It was only vaguely about the company and I was sure few people watching knew who he was. Now, I've found the rest of the story.
Turns out, Best Buy approached him about being in two commericals, the lame one I saw and another promoting Best Buy's innovations contest for aspiring entrepeneurs like Crowley. There's some $100,000 to be had for the next big idea.
Mr. Crowley is donating his (undisclosed) fee to CampInteractive, a non-profit that provides technology education to underprivileged students. Mr. Crowley, Ms. Gleason, and other Foursquare employees are all involved with the initiative.
