The town has bought a new computer along with additional data storage for $3,524. The new computer will serve the town's mapping needs and is more compatible with GIS software the town already owns.

Scott County’s [IA] web-based mapping system of the entire county is now available for public viewing.

The geographic-information system, or GIS, which went live Tuesday morning, allows users to look at aerial photographs, real estate data such as deeds, parcel numbers and legal descriptions and other information.

Unlike others in the state, it's free for the public to use. It's built and hosted by Sidwell and runs on Silverlight.

The Village of Woodridge, IL has launched an online GIS. It's built on Flex.

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources has unveiled a Web-based map to show locations of more than 200 illegal dumping sites on state trust lands. The goal is to enlist the public's help to prevent such dumping, report it when found and help convict those who break the law in such actions.

Dale Zak has created skfloods.ca, an online Saskatchewan [Canada] flood map that encourages anyone with an Internet connection to contribute real-time news about floods, flood preparations, road closures and other information that might help people in a crisis.

It's built on Ushahidi.
