The Co-operative Institute of Management and Technology (CIMAT), an affiliate of the Kerala State Cooperative Bank, will launch an advanced training programme in Integrated IT and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
This will be first such integrated programme in the State promising exposure to students to a wide range of IT skills and also offer a complete GIS curriculum as standard for all modules, an official spokesman said here.
The first class of 25 students begins on Oct 17. The program was started in partnership with local GIS company, Geotrans.
The history program at the University of Michigan –Flint has begun helping the City of Grand Blanc to examine their historical roots. A yearlong project, the agreement between UM-Flint and the City of Grand Blanc Heritage Museum includes research on the houses in Grand Blanc, trying to determine who the historical occupants of the houses were.
Students in a historic preservation course and doing the research and documenting findings using GIS.
“We are using GIS software (remote sensing) and digital photographs of the buildings, both taken by the students who are doing the field work and kept in Genesee County taken from the airplane,” [research sciences professor] Rybarczyk said. “In other words, we are recreating history of the city of Grand Blanc.”
