SAS today agreed to purchase Vision Systems and Technology Inc. (VSTI), a provider of software and systems engineering that counts NGA as one of its clients and is currently hiring geospatial professionals. From the article in InformationWeek, "VSTI’s core competencies are in processing and analyzing large data volumes to find relevant nuggets of information and then disseminating that data to proper parties. As the intelligence community collects more and more information, it will need more and more sophisticated tools to analyze that information." SAS has been relatively quite for a few years in geospatial and had once touted its relationship to Esri. Is this a play to get back into the geo game?
