One of the challenges of teaching anything related to technology is the rapid rate of change. Teach about any software program, language, data format and in months or years, a new iteration appears. That's why in the course I teach as part of Penn State's Master in GIS (MGIS) program I have the students educate one another on the latest options about which they should know. I change the options each term, depending on what's going on in the industry.
This term I have the approval of Directions Media, the MGIS program manager and my students to share my efforts tackling some of these assignments with readers. The deliverables are five minute videos that will appear over the next ten weeks. I welcome your additions, corrections and thoughts on the topics.
The first assignment involves researching and reporting on a geodata format used on the Web, including a demo. I chose to assign myself the Flash format since it's ubiquitous but a bit mysterious.
