In order to increase data responsiveness when processing longitude/latitude coordinates from variable sources or from clients, Cartisan's cartographers and map staff developed a simple tool to do most of the work. Utilizing an Excel spreadsheet, formulas automatically convert map coordinates into a standardized formats of Degrees Minutes Seconds (DMS), Degrees Minutes Decimals (DMd), and Decimal Degrees. Unlike online coordinate converters that only handle one conversion at a time, this tool calculates upwards of 5,000 simultaneously. The template within the Excel spreadsheet necessitates entering the map coordinates by degrees, minutes, and seconds. With minor changes, however, users of this tool can adjust the formulas to work specifically with their dataset on hand.
