Contest category: Thematic Imagery Application areas: Environmental, Remote Sensing & Image Processing, Satellite Image Data Description: The eruption of Mt. Cleveland occurred at 0600 AST on February 19, 2001 and produced a plume of ash to 35,000 feet, disrupting air traffic across the North Pacific. This MODIS scene acquired over the central Aleutian Islands, Alaska, on February 20, 2001, captures the ash plume still billowing north from Mt. Cleveland. The image was created by displaying the Gram-Schmidt sharpened Reflectance band 26, Reflectance Band 17, and Reflectance Band 19. All processing was done in ENVI. Geographic location: Mt. Cleveland Volcano: Aleutian Islands, Alaska Image resolution: MODIS - 500 meter Source of imagery: The MODIS scene is courtesy of the International Observatory of the North (ION) at the U of Alaska Fairbanks. The DEM is courtesy of the USGS EROS Alaska Field Office, Anchorage, AK Commercial image processing software used: ENVI 4.0 - Remote Sensing and Image Processing Software Image processing technique employed: The image was created by displaying the Gram-Schmidt sharpened Reflectance band 26, Reflectance Band 17, and Reflectance Band 19. — Molly Bantz (molly@rsinc.com), Research Systems, USA |
