Company: emapsite.com
Planning applicants across England and Wales have begun using an innovative online map solution from the company eMapSite. The service allows businesses, public bodies and individuals to search, annotate, export and print detailed site plans and maps straight from the desktop. It is available through a partnership with the government's Planning Portal at www.planningportal.gov.uk/buyamap. Portal customers are routed to the service using eMapSite's Plans Ahead platform to access a suite of data, formats and editing options. James Cutler, Chief Executive of eMapSite, said: 'Our partnership with the Planning Portal means planning applicants now have access to a hosted, on-demand solution comprising comprehensive mapping. 'This is a prime example of delivering value on the desktop through an integrated web solution.' Chris Kendall, Planning Portal Director, said: 'Online mapping is playing a growing role in planning and site development. eMapSite offers an easy-to-use solution for both professional and private planning applications.' Users can search for locations and mapping backdrops before marking up their chosen sites with a set of drawing tools. Boundaries, area extents, access routes and buildings can be measured and shown in different colours, with scope to edit and reposition proposed features against National Grid co-ordinates. Among the product portfolio are aerial photography, property-level OS MasterMap data and various scales of Ordnance Survey raster data to view the surrounding context of the site including 1:10 000, 1:25 000 and 1: 50 000 scales. A key aspect of the new service is that users require no specialist GIS knowledge. As it is hosted, there are also no data storage worries. In addition, eMapSite operating rules simplify licensing and guarantee failsafe copyright of map data for use in the relevant planning application. eMapSite is widely recognised as a leading source of online digital mapping services and location intelligence solutions. The company, based in Eversley in Hampshire, provides the most comprehensive range of geographic information to professionals in the UK. eMapSite also provides geospatial data hosting and delivery services in the location intelligence arena. The aim is to provide a one-stop-shop supplying answers, services and information to anyone involved in the planning process - from home owners and businesses to planning professionals and Government officials. As the planning system evolves and modernises, the Portal aims to guide all users through the process, helping to ensure that their experience is as efficient and user-friendly as possible.
