Appello and deCarta powers LG Electronics’s GT505 new full-touch handset with mobile navigation
May 29, 2009

Company: Appello
Industry: GPS
Location: Gothernburg, Sweden

Gothenburg, Sweden --Appello Systems, the supplier of Wisepilot, the market leading online navigation and local search service and deCarta, the leading supplier of software and services for the Location-Based Services (LBS) industry, today announced that they will power the new LG GT505 handset with the Wisepilot mobile navigation solution.

This will allow owners of the LG phone to have state-of-the-art navigation directly on their GPS-enabled mobile phone. The LG GT505 will be available in Europe from June 2009.

The LG GT505's impressive 3-inch touch screen and GPS functions make it an ideal navigation device. The service will initially be offered in over 40 countries, where Wisepilot for LG will be pre-loaded on all GT505 phones*. It will give users a free 30-day trial of Wisepilot for LG - a turn-by-turn navigation solution with voice directions and moving 3D maps. In addition to this premium guide, real-time traffic information, weather and wind forecasts, Wikipedia local search, safety camera warning, a unique web portal community and an automatic travel report journal are also available. Following the free 30-day trial, the user can continue the service under several subscription plans.

Wisepilot for LG is built on deCarta's DDS geospatial platform, the most successful location platform on the market today. DDS allows Wisepilot for LG to easily integrate digital maps and database content drawn from multiple sources for fast, accurate access to the user. DDS provides flexible, patented spatial searching, geocoding and routing for LBS applications

"Location and navigation are quickly becoming required features on mobile phones," said J. Kim Fennell, President and CEO of deCarta. "We are excited to be partnering with a company of the stature of LG, whose vision for rolling out navigation will make this valuable service available to many more users worldwide."

Daniel Hernandez, Product Marketing Director for LG Mobile Communications Europe, said: "Mobile communications have been about more than just voice based calls for a long time, consumers demands more and more services as standard. Mobile GPS-navigation services have previously been preserved for high end handsets segment. The introduction of Wisepilot for LG addresses the increasing demand from our customers to also offer mobile navigation to a wider consumer base. We expect mobile navigation to grow rapidly and LG aspires to be at the forefront of this opportunity."

* Preload of Wisepilotr for LG is dependent on the operator service package provided.
