August 27, 2001

Company: Observera, Inc.

Chantilly, VA--Observera, Inc., a privately held Virginia corporation, announced the latest release of its groundbreaking video mosaicking software, RAVEN View™ Version 2.0.RAVEN View allows users to go beyond the conventional uses of video by providing them with all the tools needed to turn ordinary video into other useful products, such as still image mosaics, dynamic mosaics, georeferenced video and up-to-date image-maps.Based on powerful video mosaicking algorithms developed for the U.S.Military*, RAVEN View 2.0 is the first such capability available on a PC platform.RAVEN View gives users the ability to capture, mosaic and then georeference their video. These combined capabilities allow RAVEN View to produce high quality images, such as the video mosaics pictured below.

RAVEN View 2.0 greatly simplifies the use of both aerial and ground video for many applications, including commercial, military and civilian.RAVEN View is ideal for civilian and commercial customers that collect aerial imagery of linear features, such as roadways, railroads, waterways, shorelines, firelines, and utility rights-of-way.Ground video can be used to produce sweep mosaics for surveillance, crime scene or insurance documentation, and emergency response teams.RAVEN View is currently in place at many military installations around the world and is being used with various video sources, including color and infrared surveillance video, gun-camera video, hand-held video and foreign TV broadcasts.Military applications include intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, mine detection, and force protection.

While video is an inexpensive and easily accessible method for collecting information, it suffers from both a small field of view and a limited resolution.Mosaics allow users to capture a much wider field-of-view than possible with single frames of video, greatly enhancing the usefulness of the video.

RAVEN View's tools include:

  • Capture: preview mosaics and capture analog video streams using inexpensive video capture cards.
  • Mosaic: quickly generate mosaics from stored video clips. Georeference: add geographic information to your video by aligning with a reference map or image.
