January 28, 2010 New Delhi, India: Recognising the popularity and contribution of companies providing technology and services to Indian geospatial users, GIS Development, a global geospatial media company, felicitated organisations and personalities with awards at the recently held Map India 2010 conference. The awardees were judged by the delegates of the conference in a truly democratic style. Forms were distributed to all the conference delegates asking them to select their preferred company/personality on various categories. The poll results were assimilated on the second day of the conference and the results announced at the Valedictory Session of the conference. The privileged winners were presented with an award by the Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Dr. T. Ramasami, at the Valedictory Session of Map India 2010 on January 21, 2010. The categories of awards and their respective recipients were: GIS Software Company of the Year 2009 2010 ESRI Image Processing Company of the Year 2009 - 2010 ERDAS Photogrammetry Company of the Year 2009 - 2010 ERDAS Computing and Graphic Hardware Company of the Year 2009 - 2010 - Hewlett-Packard Survey and Positioning Company of the Year 2009 - 2010 Trimble Engineering and Machine Control Company of the Year 2009 - 2010 Trimble Cameras and Sensors Company of the Year 2009 - 2010 Leica Geospatial Solutions Company of the Year 2009 - 2010 - Rolta India Geospatial Services Company of the Year 2009 - 2010 - RSI Softech Geospatial Personality of the Year 2009 - 2010 - Dr. Mukund Rao On the occasion, a very special Lifetime Achievement Award was presented for contribution and development of geospatial technologies in India to Dr. Manosi Lahiri, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of ML Infomap. Dr. Manosi Lahiri is a Ph. D. in Geography and has worked in the GIS profession for 23 years. She is the, a company she founded in 1973. The company is foremost in providing comprehensive digital map data for India and innovative Geographic Information solutions. Dr. Lahiri is the author of several books, including text and travelogue, and is deeply interested in the evolving nature of cartography. Extending her gratitude on receiving the award Dr. Manosi Lahiri expressed, It feels very good to be given a prestigious award from my peers. So, I value the award greatly and thank all at GIS Development for bestowing me with this recognition. I feel all the work I've put in over the years has been worthwhile and I am overwhelmed on getting this recognition. This is a great honour and I accept it with humility. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, GIS Development congratulated Dr. Lahiri on the occasion and said, "With this award, GIS Development recognizes Dr. Lahiri's accomplishments as one of the first adopters of the technology in the country and a prolific author of books on spatial technology.
