Company: Global Geomatics Inc.
Montreal, Canada--Global Geomatics Inc.today introduced its new MapFusion commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software to the UK market.MapFusion permits access to geospatial data from diverse sources and formats without the need for complex pre-processing or time-consuming translation.MapFusion's "on-the-fly" ability to access, visualize, share, and disseminate geographic information systems (GIS) data across the Internet or IP-based intranets, means that even non-GIS specialists can reap benefits from geospatial data created by other departments or organizations. MapFusion seamlessly and dynamically merges heterogeneous and distributed geospatial data files into a single map -- literally "fusing" maps together.Multiple vector or image files regardless of their source coordinate systems or formats can be combined to form a single map.The product uniformly displays tactical overlays atop geospatial data from any source. Designed to meet demanding military and commercial requirements, MapFusion supports interoperability between prevalent geospatial military standards including VPF, RPF, ADRG, and DTED, as well as among popular GIS business packages from ESRI®, IBM® Informix™, Intergraph®, MapInfo®, ObjectFX™, Oracle®, and Virtual Prototypes™.It can also retrieve data from proprietary and open GIS file formats. In true "any-to-any" fashion, it operates in a broad variety of computing environments including Microsoft® Windows® 98/NT/2000, Sun™ Microsystems Solaris™, and Linux®. "Global Geomatics' goal has always been to develop an easy-to-use alternative to costly conversions of cartographic information.MapFusion is a solid solution to this problem. We're pleased to be able to introduce our new software to the UK defense and commercial markets," said Gilles Clement, CEO and founder of Global Geomatics.
MapFusion Components Geospatial data dissemination and dynamic web map rendering services are handled by MapFusion's server software, which can process requests from both MapFusion Workstations and from standard web browsers.MapFusion Server can also act as a central metadata repository, allowing easy and intuitive peer-to-peer exchange of geospatial data files.MapFusion Server runs on Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 2000, Sun Microsystems Solaris, and Linux. MapFusion Workstation is user-oriented software that provides easy access, sharing and visualization of geospatial data sets.MapFusion Workstation can search for geospatial data across any local or network file system, hard drive, or CD-ROM.It offers a powerful authoring tool for creating elegant maps with rich features and proportional metrics. The product's rendering engine automatically eliminates duplicate or overlapped annotations and labels.MapFusion Workstation runs on Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 98, and Windows 2000. MapFusion uses adapter software to normalize geospatial file formats into a uniform data abstraction, which can then be easily manipulated.Adapters exist for all vector and raster military formats as well as for most popular commercial geospatial software.
On-Demand Access to 80% of Existing Geodata Formats The product inter-operates with a large array of commercial software packages including: ESRI ArcView™ and ArcInfo™, IBM Informix Geodetic Datablade™, Intergraph GeoMedia™, MapInfo Professional®, ObjectFX SpatialFX™, Oracle8i™ spatial formats, and Virtual Prototypes VAPS™ product. It reads data from proprietary and open GIS file formats including: MrSID, ECW, GeoTIFF, Shapefile, Tab/Map files, GRASS, SDTS, and TIGER. The foundation of MapFusion is the Open Geospatial Datastore Interface (OGDI) and the Geographic Library Transfer Protocol (GLTP).Developed in collaboration with defence scientists at the Canadian Department of National Defence, OGDI is an application program interface (API) that enables any software application to access easily heterogeneous geospatial data sources.Developed by Global Geomatics, GLTP provides a unique IP-based data transfer protocol that, when combined with OGDI, allows complete interoperability of distributed and heterogeneous geospatial data sources.OGDI is used by MapFusion to access local data sources, while GLTP is used to establish networked exchange and dissemination of geospatial data. MapFusion can be learned in less than three hours. The product itself can be installed and up-and-running in a heterogeneous computing environment in less than 30 minutes. It scales gracefully from a small community of users to many millions. Available now, MapFusion software components can be purchased from Global Geomatics or from its resellers.Software pricing for a typical single server installation running under Microsoft Windows with five workstations and a small array of MapFusion adaptors is about $25,000.
