Montreal, Canada--Global Geomatics Inc.(Montreal, QC) announced today a contract for the installation of its MapFusion Workstation and Server products at the University of Quebec at Hull.MapFusion Workstation will provide university researchers with access, visualization, and map creation capabilities, as well as peer-to-peer search and sharing of local or distributed geospatial data files.MapFusion Server will be used to disseminate geospatial data, dynamically render maps, and serve as a central metadata repository.The MapFusion network will form the foundation of an integrated system that will allow University researchers to quickly process, analyze, and correlate remote sensing data and other hydrographic information collected for use in the identification, classification and mapping of Canada's coastline and waterways.

Professor Marek Zaremba, head of the geomatics research project at the University and a participant in the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure's movement toward an integrated and thorough mapping of Canada, explained the part Global Geomatics' technology plays in his project's goals: "We need a system that will allow us to easily store and share multi-dimensional, spatially-referenced data between ourselves and interdisciplinary organizations outside the University.Our needs require support for real-time processing and modeling of different types of spatial data across our internal network and the Internet.MapFusion gives us these capabilities."

Based on the Open Geospatial Data Interface (OGDI), MapFusion will allow University researchers to access vector and matrix data on the fly, without any change to their native formats.The software's ability to provide high-speed searching and indexing of spatial data will make it possible to conduct joint research and development projects with other organizations."This would have been very difficult without the MapFusion technology," said Professor Zaremba.

Other partners who will share in the University's research include University of Victoria, University of Montreal, Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, and Geomatics Canada.

The purchase of the software was funded through a grant supplied by the Canadian Foundation for Innovations an independent corporation established by the Government of Canada to support research excellence at Canadian universities.
