FGM Inc.Announces RapidMap v2.0
June 30, 1999

Company: FGM,Inc.

Key Enhancements Offer Developers a Powerful Development Environment

HERNDON, Va. -- FGM Inc.proudly announces a major release of its premiere product, RapidMap(tm) v2.0.

RapidMap is a powerful Java-based geo-spatial mapping tool that offers visualization tools for producing high-quality maps based on thousands of DoD, Federal, and publicly available mapping products.RapidMap allows users to select individual map themes and to display selections collectively or independently.Based on a component architecture, RapidMap works with various web servers and provides access to maps via Java-enabled browsers or other client applications.RapidMap v2.0 offers developers significant enhancements over previous versions with the introduction of complete Java 2 support, a new component-based architecture, improved object server support, and a robust software developers kit (SDK).RapidMap provides an order of magnitude increase in performance over existing systems.

FGM's Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Mike Fortier noted: ``With RapidMap v2.0 we allow developers to build custom solutions using our SDK and core RapidMap classes. With these tools, developers can extend RapidMap's basic functionality and bring customized geo-spatial solutions to totally new markets quickly and easily.''

RapidMap addresses the need for three-tier, object-oriented architectures, such as the Web, to manage increasingly complex and widely distributed mission-critical applications.RapidMap uses a multi-tiered architecture that partitions system processing and improves performance and application integrity, improves application and database management, and promotes the use of business rules to isolate function from the data.

One of RapidMap's most powerful improvements is its complete support for Java 2 application programming interfaces (API).This support gives users and developers graphical access to RapidMap's geo-objects through 2-D APIs.Another core improvement to RapidMap is its redesign using Sun's Java Bean architecture. Now developers can quickly extend RapidMap's capabilities through its component-based architecture.Developers can create hybrid applications by combining their own components with RapidMap.One of RapidMap's new features includes improved object server support, which allows developers to introduce their own custom objects in RapidMap's geo-spatial environment.
